Dr Assad Homayoun
Dr Assad
Homayoun is increasingly well-known as the
articulate leader of Iran�s exiled
nationalist opposition, as head of the
Azadegan Foundation, an umbrella
organization which supports democratic
change in Iran.
Dr Homayoun,
who appears regularly on Iranian radio and
television � broadcast from abroad �
as well as in the US media, is a former
senior Iranian diplomat currently residing
in the United States. He was n charge of
political affairs at the
Iranian Embassy in Washington DC for 12
years and, just before the revolution, was
Charg� d'Affairs in charge of the
Embassy.
For the past
20+
years, Dr Homayoun has provided advice and
counsel to many opposition groups in exile.
He helped organize the Azadegan movement,
headed by the late General, Dr Bahram Aryana,
who mounted a campaign to topple the
fundamentalist administration in Iran, but
died in exile.
In recent
years, Dr Homayoun has substantially
increased his political activities by
sending political, social and cultural
messages to the people inside Iran. He is
currently President of the Azadegan
Foundation (a movement for the liberation
and freedom of the Iranian people) and
editor of Focus on Iran.
Dr Homayoun
earned his PhD in International Relations at
George Washington University in Washington
DC and served as a Professor there. He is
the author of many articles on
international, Middle Eastern and Iranian
affairs in Strategic Policy,
Defense & Foreign Affairs, Global
Affairs and The Washington Times.
He is a Senior Fellow at ISSA.
