The Latest from Gregory Copley:

The New Total War of the 21st Century and the Trigger of the Fear Pandemic.

The New Total War of the 21st Century and the Trigger of the Fear Pandemic, the 320-page book by Gregory Copley, launched to much acclaim with its e-book edition on June 6, 2020.

The print premier edition will be available in early July 2020.

The New Total War, which is absolutely topical in today's climate, is an enduring look at the evolution of the philosophy and practice of modern total war since the late 18th Century and through the three global wars of the 20th Century (World Wars I and II, and the Cold War). But it achieved a far "more total" aspect in the 21st Century, and the first total war of the century was now underway between the People's Republic of China and the US and West.

The book has 18 comprehensive chapters plus an extensive Preface and Epilogue, but it also has a "Strategic Glossary" which introduces and explains new strategic concepts and updates old ones, making it a significant reference work for strategic education.

The book dwells heavily on economics, sociology, and information dominance (ID) concepts, but also gets into the new approach which is being taken to strategic warfighting. It also re-thinks alliance structuring, population movement and population warfare, legal warfare (lawfare), how democracy has transformed, the impact which may be declining of new technologies, and much more.

The New Total War sells for US$34.50 (print edition) or US$12.50 (PDF ebook), and both versions can be ordered through ISSA's new e-commerce portal by clicking here.

Several international editions and translations were under discussion as at early June 2020, and the first of these, the Australian edition, was due to be published in June 2020 by SidHarta Publishers, of Melbourne, Australia.

Former US House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich said of the book: "This is the kind of new thinking and candid dialogue we need to prepare for a better future." Dr Ed Feulner, founder and former President of The Heritage Foundation said: "Gregory Copley, one of America's foremost strategists, invites us to re-think the current pandemic in its larger context, geographically and historically. ... a provocative volume that expands our understanding ... Red it to understand the challenge we are really facing."

Dr Robert Wood, Emeritus Dean and Nimitz Chair, the Center for Naval Warfare Studies, the US Naval War College, said: "Gregory Copley has drawn together the disparate political, socio-economic, technological, and military forces of our century to show a global transformation startling in its significance for our survival as a people. ... This study is a must-read for those who are entrusted with national defense as it will change the way we thin about defense budgets, strategies, decisionmaking, and operations."

Understanding Where We're Going ..

Where the human species is moving and knowing our place in it, our ability to shift our own and our societys position is one of the fundamental preoccupations of every individual. We strive, always, for purpose. Understanding that purpose, and making it effective, requires a deep knowledge of context: historical context; geographic and geopolitical context; social, military, and technological context ... and a deep comprehension of ourselves as individuals and within society.

Australian-born writer and philosopher Gregory Copley has, for four decades, advised governments and leaders around the world on issues of grand strategy and national management. His work both open and classified has been recognized with honors, and his books, journals, and writings have circulated in some 160 countries.

This website contains some of his writings, and details of his books. Where possible, it will give links to where some of his more recent and new books can be obtained. We will also post, when possible, some of his new essays on current and philosophical issues.

Chinese-language edition of The Art of Victory

In January 2012, the Chinese-language edition of The Art of Victory, published in traditional characters, and translated by the great Chinese strategist, Vice-Admiral Ko Tun-hwa, was published in Taipei.

Vice-Adm. Ko Tun-hwa, who died in Taipei, at the age of 89, on June 12, 2010, was a close friend and colleague of the author.

Copley noted: The publication of the Chinese-language edition of The Art of Victory is another great monument to possibly the greatest Chinese strategic thinker of the 20th Century. Tony Ko was well into his eighties when he volunteered to translate the book into traditional Chinese characters, and had just finished the work when he passed away, a few days after we parted on our last time together, touring the Republic of Chinas naval bases. He was in this translation work, and in all other things, greatly assisted by Ming Ko, his daughter, who continues to champion her fathers historical achievement through World War II, the Chinese Civil War, and the establishment of the ROC on Taiwan. But Tony Kos wisdom is also recognized across the Taiwan Straits, and he hoped that The Art of Victory would be valuable to both the PRC and ROC.

The ROC Navy was also helpful in producing the new edition of the book, and Capt. Dr Laurence Linn helped bring the project to fruition.

The Chinese edition was published by Wunan Books, in Taipei, with a cover price of NT$400. It can be found at their website: http://www.wunanbooks.com.tw/searchspider.aspx?searchfor=%E5%8B%9D%E5%88%A9%E4%B9%8B%E8%97%9D%E8%A1%93&keyName=1.
